Give your home a once over once a day.
They call them Morning Rounds in the hospital setting. The time when doctors and residents go around to the hospital rooms on their watch and check in on patients, discuss modes of treatment and make a general checkup on their watch. I call them Morning Rounds in the home. The time when I go around checking rooms and places seeing to it that all is moderately clean and in place.
Seen to on a daily basis this morning round cleaning routine has the desired effect of keeping our home sufficiently neat and tidy.
After hustle and bustle of morning preparations, breakfast and what have you a home could usually do with a quick walk through to settle things back to comfortably homeyness. We’re not looking for spotless here just a general order.
So here’s my path of morning rounds for a clean and organized home...
- After breakfast and the general cleaning in the kitchen that follows I go around from room to room. I take care of things like making sure beds are made, putting clothing away, a tuck here and there all in the name of general tidying up.
- I start in the bedrooms putting away clothing, making sure beds are made and no glaring messes have escaped my notice. Clearing nightstands and dressers.
- Then I move to the bathrooms making sure towels are folded and any extra spills are wiped up. Check the bathroom tissue (nice genteel name for it) and toothpaste and move on.
- I toss a load of laundry in the washer and move back through the dining room to remove newspapers and any leftover dishes from the table. I end up in the kitchen where I toss and close and am ready to move on to other things.
Provided I don’t get sidetracked this all takes about 15 minutes.
Even though I’ve called these morning household rounds, if you’re home most days like I am, a walk through like this at any time in a home well loved and used keeps things neat and tidy.
