Are you trying to save more money each month? Well add regular household cleaning to your list and watch the bills drop.

Just as taking care of anything (including yourself) results in saved money in repair bills cleaning and taking care of your home can save you many dollars in excess bills due to neglect.

It is a fact that something that is dirty will wear down or out much sooner than something that is clean.

Here are some examples:

Your car: You have it tuned up and checked out so that it won’t break down in the middle of the road and cause you untold costs in towing and replacement.

Your heater: You have a heater appliance technician come out once a year to clean it up, add a new filter and give it the once over so it too does not crash on you during a snow storm and then you have to pay through the nose to have it replaced.

Your Teeth: We go to the dentist twice a year for a maintenance and cleaning. Sometimes he (my current dentist is a male but my previous one was a woman) will catch something that might be in need of repair but it will cost much less than your having gone to him in an emergency. Sometimes he will catch something before it becomes a big problem and you will have skirted a huge bill.

So do the same for each area of your home:

  • Wash your linens and clothing regularly to keep them in good repair. Dirty linens wear out faster. Moths like dirty wool (did you know that?)
  • Clean your bathroom regularly so it does not endanger your health and cause excess bills in the medical care arena.
  • Clean your carpets regularly. Have then professionally shampooed or invest in a carpet cleaner icon yourself. They will last longer.
  • Follow the cleaning and maintenance for your household appliances. Many times malfunctions are due to not following manufacturer recommendations for cleaning and maintenance.
  • Clean your the coils behind your refrigerator. This will help it to function better and aid in efforts to reduce your power bill.

So save yourself some bucks and take care of what you’ve got.

Also cleaning regularly means that when you do clean you won’t have to work quite as hard as if you had neglected the surface. No heavy duty tools, chemicals and elbow grease.
