I know many people drop by this Homemaking Organized looking for frugal ways to celebrate Christmas.
My tip is to stop celebrating it all together. But if you’re not ready for that (yet) Dollar Stretcher has a whole section for you.
Many families have stopped celebrating Christmas or have scaled it down considerably, by passing the holiday hoopla. Especially in this struggling economy revisiting our traditions and creating new ones focused less on excess is an excellent way to get a grip on this most expensive of American customs.
A few years ago, it became popular to have a birthday party for Jesus in many Christian homes. Omitting the role of Santa Clause entirely. A special dinner using the colors befitting a king (purple and gold) and forgoing on the gift giving.
In recent years, some Christian families have decided to not celebrate Christmas at all after learning the history behind many modern traditions and the link to pagan traditions. Since some people believe Jesus was most likely not born anywhere near December 25th, many Christians have stopped celebrating in December. They prefer to focus on Jesus all year, instead of one day a year.
Side note our extended family has celebrated the Lord’s Birth with a special dinner outside of the December month for close to 20 years. Although the dinner is fancy and glorious we do not run into end of year finances quandry many seem to find themselves in.
