Now that you’ve jumped on the bandwagon and have been spending some time putting together great dinners each week for your family let’s turn our focus and not forget the earliest meals.

If you haven’t already heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Even though numerous people skip breakfast altogether there is enough research proving that this can be detrimental to not only your body but your mind...gasp!

Just think about it you spend at least six to eight hours sleeping.  It’s pretty much the given that after that time your body will need fuel to work at optimum. It’s the given.  But if you’re not eating breakfast at home, your on the run breakfast options may amount to too much fat, too much sugar and too many carbs.  And, that not taking into account the time wasted standing in line and the extra cost for breakfast out.

If you are the type to skip breakfast, here is a solution to starting the day with a good breakfast which will help you keep hunger in check as well as give you the natural energy boost to start your day.

Breakfast Ideas

1. Oatmeal: Oatmeal is a great hot breakfast choice that contains lots of filling fiber to keep you full.  Depending on your taste, you can take five minutes to fix it on the stove or use the microwave for instant oatmeal.  Chopped fruit is an excellent addition to oatmeal and can take the place of sugar.

2. Fruit Smoothies: So delicious in the hot summer months fruit and yogurt smoothies are a fabulous morning breakfast treat.  You’ll have to put in a tiny bit of work blending the ingredients together in the morning, but the prep work can be done at night.  Cube your fruit and place it into a container.  Instead of frozen yogurt in the morning, use a cup of plain yogurt.  Add ice cubes, a little water and blend. Or use frozen fruit and forgo the ice.

3. Breakfast Sandwich: A turkey patty between a homemade biscuit. I stated making these years ago when I discovered my allergy to soy. Take some ground turkey and mix in the spices your adore. Bake in the oven until done. Make some homemade biscuits. In the morning put a patty between a biscuit, wrap in foil and heat. Delicious! You alter these to your liking. Seasonings in the biscuits, an egg, cheese, etc. These can be addicting so be sure to make them light. Just like the restaurant!

End the breakfast battle?  To meal a great breakfast meal have to opt for too much fat, calories or carbs.  These quick and easy breakfast ideas can be made within minutes and are a much healthier alternative to skipping breakfast or grabbing a high fat alternative.

Put your breakfast plans on your meal planning sheet so you can put together a shopping list and make sure to never miss breakfast again.
