Here is your home organizing checklist for February 2010. Get your home life organized!

____ Feb 1 Take time to go through the house and dust all of your light bulbs. The benefits will be two-fold; you’ll get more light from each bulb, and they’ll last longer.

____ Feb 2 Have you inventoried your home contents for your insurance? In the event of a fire or natural disaster, this will be invaluable in making claims. Even better, use a camcorder to have a video inventory. Store the video or paper record in a safe deposit box, or in a fire proof safe.

____ Feb 3 Review your budget and financial goals. How did you do for the previous month? What adjustments need to be made to stay on track? Now is the time to make those adjustments to stay on track for February.

____ Feb 4 Do you have a forsythia bush or dogwood tree? You can cut branches and force indoor blooms. Make slanted cuts and place stems in a vase of water. Change the water every 4 days or so. In just 3 weeks you’ll have springtime indoors.

____ Feb 5 Today is International Pancake Day. Celebrate by fixing a new pancake recipe--for dinner! There are many yummy recipes for pancakes out there.

____ Feb 6 Weed out 5 articles of clothing you no longer wear. It doesn’t matter if they come out of your closet or your dresser. Put them in a bag and bring them to your favorite charity.

____ Feb 7 Have you made your plans for Valentine’s Day? Now is the time to plan your day with your sweetheart.

____ Feb 8 Get your garden tools sharpened. Check handles on spades, hoes and rakes to make sure they are firmly attached.

____ Feb 9 Did your medical coverage change in January? Verify that you have the current ID cards that you’ll need for doctor visits and so on. ____ Feb 10 Are you taking a vacation this spring or summer? Take time now to plan for your vacation. Start by setting your vacation budget and begin to save now. The more you can save, the less you have to pay on credit later.

____ Feb 11 Get a head start on your spring cleaning. Pick one room to start in and make a list of what you want to do. Then begin working off each item on your list. Do this with each room, and just progress through the house. If you need motivation, the Get Organized Now forum has an ongoing thread called ‘Room of the Month’. Lots of encouragement and company as you work your way through each room in your home.

____ Feb 12 Is there a new hobby you would like to try? Sign up to take a class to find out if you‘ll really enjoy that particular hobby or craft. You can find classes at craft shops, hobby shops and quilt shops.

____ Feb 13 Do you have baking you need/want to do for tomorrow? Do it today so that you are able to relax and enjoy the day tomorrow.

____ Feb 14 Enjoy the day with your special someone. Happy Valentine’s Day!

____ Feb 15 Do you have pets? Now is a good time to wash and disinfect their bedding, toys, and food and water dishes. Toss the bedding, along with any plush toys into the washer and dryer. Run the toys and food and water dishes through a cycle in the dishwasher.

____ Feb 16 How are your houseplants doing? Take some time to give them some TLC. Prune out dead or dying stems and re-pot those that have become root bound. Both you and your plants benefit.

____ Feb 17 If there isn’t a lot of humidity in your area you can do some interior painting. Make sure you use low VOC paints so you don’t have to deal with the fumes.

____ Feb 18 Take time to clean snow off of exterior vents, air intakes and meters. Make sure there is a clear path to your meters so they can be easily read, and the meter readers are safe.

____ Feb 19 After a heavy snow, take some time to knock the snow off of tree branches, especially those on smaller trees. This will avoid branches breaking off under the weight of the snow.

____ Feb 20 Now is a good time to get your seeds started for your summer flower and veggie gardens. Even if you container garden, it’s a good idea to give your plants that head start.

____ Feb 21 Take your vacuum and use the proper attachment to clean the exhaust fan in your bathroom. It will operate much more efficiently and that can help prevent mildew, mold and paint problems.

____ Feb 22 Do you have good batteries in your flashlights and are they in a convenient spot in the event of a power outage? In addition to flashlights, flameless candles and push lights also operate on batteries and are very helpful to have around in a power outage.

____ Feb 23 Have you started planning for next Christmas? The earlier you plan the less stress you’ll have next year. If you do hand-crafted gifts, now is the time to get a head start. Just one a week gives you a great start on your holiday gifts for year-end.

____ Feb 24 Is your mower ready for mowing season? Now is a good time to schedule a tune up and overall checkup so that it will be ready to go when you are. Mowing season will be here before you know it.

____ Feb 25 Share a smile with everyone you meet today! Smiles are the one contagion that no one minds catching, or sharing.

____ Feb 26 When was the last time you cleaned up your bookshelves? Take time to go through your books. Set aside those that you know you won’t re-read. They can be donated to your local library for their annual book sale, or traded online or you can schedule a book exchange with your friends.

____ Feb 27 Has your ironing gotten away from you? Set aside 30 minutes and iron for that 30 minutes. When the time is up you are free to stop. If you don’t have 30 minutes, spend 15. Do this every day and before you know it, that ironing will be done.

____ Feb 28 Spring is coming! Buy a bouquet of bright spring flowers and use them to brighten up the dinner table. You could even fix some typical picnic food and have a picnic with your spring flowers!
