September 2010 Home Organizing Checklist Print E-mail
Written by Maria Gracia

Here is your September 2010 Home Organizing Checklist

____ Sep 1 Make sure you have all the back-to-school supplies that are needed. Organize the supplies and have them ready to go for the first day of school.

____ Sep 2 Remove the clutter and wipe clean your kitchen counters.

____ Sep 3 Time to start planning activities for the upcoming fall season, like sporting events, plays, etc. Update your planner. While you’re at it, buy a new calendar for 2011 if you use the January through December version.

____ Sep 4 How prepared are you to handle a potential disaster? September is National Preparedness Month. Take time this month to evaluate how equipped you are to handle disasters. Create an emergency kit that includes such things as canned foods, bottled water, batteries and other emergency supplies.

____ Sep 5 Check out your home before winter. Make sure all exterior vents are screened and that there are no gaps underneath the garage door. If you are careless about leaving doors and windows open during this time of year, you may be buying mousetraps later.

____ Sep 6 Today is Labor Day. It is time to honor the workforce that contributes to the strength of this nation.

____ Sep 7 Try to combine errands when you need to run out during the week. This will save you time and energy to take care of other tasks.

____ Sep 8 September is a prime time to transplant both your large and small perennials.

____ Sep 9 Have a rake and garbage bags available to collect leaves. Before bagging the leaves, have a little fun and jump into them first.

____ Sep 10 Dust off the ceiling fans, chandeliers and light fixtures. Then, enjoy the last few days of summer by enjoying some time outside in the sun with family and friends.

____ Sep 11 Do an inventory of your home office supplies. Replenish staples, paper clips and anything else that is running low since many of these items will remain on sale because of back-to-school season.

____ Sep 12 It is National Grandparents Day. Take time today to honor your grandparents by spending some time with them, or remembering them in some special way. Grandparents are our heritage.

____ Sep 13 Grab window cleaner and wipe down all mirrors and TV screens.

____ Sep 14 Sit down and write a handwritten note to someone special in your life.

____ Sep 15 Air out or launder your fall and winter blankets, quilts and heavy sheets.

____ Sep 16 Make a non-perishable donation to a food shelter in your community. There are many people in need.

____ Sep 17 Do you have a pet peeve in your house, like shoes piling up in the entryway? Fix that problem today.

____ Sep 18 Get the front hall closet ready for winter coats and accessories.

____ Sep 19 Tonight do something with your family like playing a board game or working on a puzzle instead of watching television or going your separate ways.

____ Sep 20 Go through your e-mails today and purge old and unneeded ones.

Keeping on top of everything going on in your life is easy, when you have the Get Organized Now!™ Easy Organizer. Now available in both print and digital PDF format.

____ Sep 21 Weed out the pantry. Throw out anything gone bad. Put items close to their expiration dates in the front so they can be used soon. Throw away dented cans.

____ Sep 22 Start your fall garden clean up. After a long summer enjoying your garden, it is time to start preparing it for the winter chill.

____ Sep 23 Donate a minimum of 5 books you’ll never read again to your local library or half-priced book store. Autumn begins today. Enjoy a fall activity. Have a glass of apple cider to get in the mood.

____ Sep 24 Do a quick visual check to make sure gutters are clear of leaves and other debris. If not, get them cleaned.

____ Sep 25 Organize all those summer pictures for future viewing.

____ Sep 26 Do you have flashlights by each bed for use in a power outage? If not, put one by each bed. If you do, check to make sure the batteries are working.

____ Sep 27 Do something for your pet, like scrub out the fish bowl, or give your dog a nice brushing or clean out your cat’s water bowl. Then, take time for yourself today. Enjoy a manicure, a good book or a massage.

____ Sep 28 Get a head start on holiday correspondence. It will not be long before it is time to decorate and prepare for the holiday season. Organize your stationery and writing supplies. Make sure your address book is current and plan ahead for buying stamps and cards.

____ Sep 29 Bring out your fall and winter clothing. Take anything that needs to be cleaned to the dry cleaner or wash it yourself.

____ Sep 30 Toss any old socks that are missing their mates. When you are finished, go through your other lingerie and see what needs to be tossed.
