Cleaning the Floor with a Steam Mop Print E-mail
Written by K Quinn

With linoleum in the kitchen and both bathrooms I wanted an easier way to clean the floors on a daily basis rather than getting out the mop and the pads. I already use microfiber mops exclusively but I wanted a little more oomph! that could undo what a small child and pets can put out.

So I read the reviews and opted for a Bissell Steam Mop

Like others I ran around to no less than 5 stores in my city before giving up and realizing I was only able to get this item online. Buying the Bissell Steam Mop through Amazon let me get free shipping and give feedback (which I have yet to do).

So my review...

Pros:

  • It only uses water so I’m not using chemicals or something that will leave a buildup each day to clean the floor. I use distilled water as we have hard water and I read that (hard water) would eventually kill the machine.
  • It uses microfiber pads and you get two. When this first came out the pads were not microfiber and they broke down quickly. I love microfiber's scrubbing power.
  • Hot water cleans a lot.
  • Easy to assemble. Very easy.
  • Quiet so I can steam clean and not freak my daughter or cat out. They hate the loud contraptions I use to keep a clean home.
  • Buy from Amazon and get free shipping. Like you bought it in town!
  • It’s small so I keep it in the kitchen where I mop each night.
  • No emptying of dirty water and the like to clean up. Just whip off the pad and tuck it away.

Cons:

  • It doesn’t do baseboards. It would be so perfect if it did.
  • Some felt the cord was too short. My kitchen is small (I should go measure so you know) and the cord reaches all around.
  • I wasn’t looking for this but some were unhappy that they had to sanitize the floor by holding the mop in place for several seconds.
  • I don’t know if this is a con but if you were looking for something that would blast your floors back to factory setting this probably is not it. You will still need to apply some elbow grease every so often the old fashioned way to get a perfect floor.
  • Some had streaked floors. My floors were wet when done but they usually are when I’m mopping so I just shut doors for a few minutes while they air dry. I’m not overly picky about this but if you are that was a gripe and some people dealt with it by drying with a cloth or something afterwards.
Am I happy with my purchase? Yes. I have tried the grocery store brand quick mops with special cleaners and disposable cloths and found the left my floors either sticky or slippery or just with a film I didn’t want. The Bissell Steam Mop cleaned the floor with steam and microfiber and got up the daily spills and sticky that happen with living. I go to bed after about a minute of mopping. It's so quick I kind of look forward to it.
