Coupon Cutting to Save Money at the Grocery Store - My Couponizer Review Print E-mail
Written by K Quinn

You have to eat. You can’t get by it. In this day and age we rely on the grocery store much more than our, maybe, vegetable garden to supply our food needs. It can be one of the largest bills in your house and it only makes sense to find ways to cut it down without sacrificing health and taste. One of the best ways is to use coupons. So this is my review of the Couponizer and my path to find it.

I use coupons regularly and like the saving in my grocery bill but like many I have often misplaced or just plain forgotten coupons at home and even in my pocket when I’m at the store. I just get sidetracked and disorganized when it comes to using coupons. And heaven forbid I’m in a hurry then it’s all about ignoring the coupons I could be using. Even though coupons aren’t the only way I save money on my family’s grocery bill using them can help reduce it a great deal. With just simple coupons and being diligent about using them I can save an average of $10 to $20 per shopping trip and that adds up.

Although I’m not in an area that allows coupon doubling we can use manufacturer's coupons and the store coupons together for big savings.

The problem came in being organized about the whole coupon ordeal. I tried several coupon holders. Starting with the simple cardboard accordion coupon organizers I found that they broke down quickly over time, and didn’t have enough categories, nor enough space to hold all of my coupons.

My First Tries

Then I found a coupon organizer online that came with scissors, a mini calculator and was made of cloth. Nice idea but the cloth was flimsy, the scissor were very cheap (stopped cutting soon after), and the velcro didn’t hold it closed.

So back to the drawing board.

This time I came up The Couponizer Coupon Organizing Kit. I admit it was one of those look and "no way I’m not paying that!" and then coming back later after all my other coupon organizer tries failed.

Giving In

I needed something that would hold my coupons AND STAY CLOSED, have enough sections for all my coupons, remind me of what I was using that shopping day, inspire me, and be small enough that I didn’t have to carry a backpack to use it. So I placed my order.

When my Couponizer Coupon Organizing Kit arrived in the mail I pulled out all of the accouterments to inspect it and decide if this was going to work for me.

What I Liked

First of all I liked that it was small yet big enough to hold all my groceries. Having to be pretty specific about what I buy I have never been one of those to buy $500 worth of groceries and pay only $18. I have a nice amount of coupons but you won't see me on any news shows.

Second I liked the many sections. Such as there is a section for Laundry AND a section for Household products. Not just one big Home section.

I liked how it came with two coupon notepads. One for your grocery list with a little section to mark if you have coupons for that particular item and one for keeping track of how much you saved on said shopping trip where you used coupons.

I like the little organizing mat where I can cut my coupons and lay them on each section so when I’m done with a cutting marathon I can put them quickly away.

I am very appreciative of the little scissor which a good quality and just the size so my Peanut can help me cut coupons.

And mostly I like the little bag to keep everything compact and neat so I can grab and go come shopping day.

In addition to your grocery department sections there are slots for Entertainment, Restaurants, Retail, and Refund, Rewards. And finally a slot for keeping receipts (like those ikea ones with cash to use on another purchase).

At $19.95 the Couponizer Coupon Organizing Kit does cost a bit more than your average coupon organizer but then it isn’t your average coupon organizer. I’ve had mine for a couple of years now and it still looks as good as when bought it. It’s sturdy and it’s inspiring so you want to use it. I did laminate one of my shopping lists so I wouldn't have to keep buying new pads.

The Couponizer Coupon Organizing Kit was a good buy for me especially since I made my money back in my first shopping trip with. I save an average of $5 per shopping trip when I'm not trying and $20 when I'm put forth some effort (checking for coupons online, actively getting them from the computer, etc.)
