I’ve just finished reviewing Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables DVD and now I have to run to the store to restock our vegetable bin in the refrigerator!
You’ve heard it said over and over and maybe even said it yourself. “How do I get my kids to eat their vegetables?”
It can be frustrating especially if you have a picky eater. Or maybe your child discovered the wonderful taste of junk food early on and they’re having a hard time turning back.
Whatever the reason. Now there is a fun way to get your child to ask to eat what is good for them!
We all know kids like to copy. It’s why we monitor so closely what they watch on television and see on the computer. They will eventually want to try it too so you want to make sure they’re watching something good.
That’s where Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables comes in.
Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables is a darling DVD that features small children eating fresh, uncooked fruits and vegetables. The idea is that watching other children enjoying nature’s bounty will encourage your own child to mimic healthy eating.
Put together by a mom who noticed her own child more willing to eat fruits and vegetables after she saw other children eating them Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables was voted one of the best Audio/Visuals for 2011 by Dr. Toy.
Copy-Kids runs for 119 minutes and costs $19.95 for the DVD. It can also be purchased at a few stores also listed on the website. The video is geared for children ages six months to 5 years.
Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables is set up into 12 chapters that each focus on a different fruit or vegetable.
- Bell Peppers
About the Videos:
Each chapter on the DVD is about 10 minutes long.
Chapters are introduced simply with the name of the food item being eaten. Then before the child starts to chow down you are given their name and age. There are several children in each chapter. The children are all young between 9 months and five years. There is no talking after you learn their name.
The children are busy eating so mostly the only sounds you hear are their happy eating sounds. Occasionally an older child may say “have a piece” and the younger children will say a bit of baby talk, but it’s all “munch, munch”!
There are a few Extras on the DVD.
- An interview with Dr. Jay Gordon who answers specific questions about the benefits of fruits and vegetables on child nutrition.
- Outtakes from filming the kids. Because you know kids are so funny without any script. These are clips and bits that didn’t make it to the cutting room floor. But they are so cute. Kids jumping out of the chairs to dance for you. Or wandering over to the camera to find out what is going on. My favorite is the little boy singing with his air ukelele. Who then goes to get the real thing (his little ukele).
When I found out about Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables I asked if I could review this with my daughter. Since she is becoming a budding nutritionist and I thought she would enjoy this video and the focus on foods she loves. True to form not only did she love the video but she gave me a new list of items I needed to pick up at the grocery store too!
I keep a stocked fresh food pantry but since I didn’t have blueberries or oranges at the time she requested those items on our next shopping trip.
Even with as much fruit as my daughter eats in a given day (an apple at the very least not to mention a banana, pear, a carrot and whatever veggies I have for dinner) she ended up wanting even more after watching this video. And she’s only 8! But she’s not the only one. I found myself hankering for some avocado after watching Copy-Kids.
As a parent I think this DVD is a great way to encourage kids to eat well. Fruits and veggies are not only good for you they are delicious and introducing them early on makes it easier to keep your kids making healthy eating choices as they grow up.
Besides the fact that the video is adorable. The kids are so cute at just being themselves. You can tell they are enjoying what they are eating. And it’s so sweet to see them in action.
I asked my daughter, who is 8, to sum up how she felt about Copy Kids in a few sentences (we’re still working on creative writing). And here’s what she had to say. (Well she typed it up and handed it to me after polishing off a plate of blueberries.)
” I like the food video because I like to eat healthy foods. I liked it because the kids are eating healthy foods.”
~Sweet Peanut, 8
