We homemaker’s have to sit back and relax once in a while. I do much of my relaxing by reading. I prefer light fiction because it doesn’t traumatize me.
Home to Paradise is the final book in The Coming Home Series from best-selling Amish author Barbara Cameron. Rose Anna Zook has watched her two older sisters marry two Stoltzfus men and has always thought she and John, the third Stoltzfus brother, would marry, make a home together, and have children. But John has other ideas. He’s enjoying his Rumschpringe in the Englisch world a little too much and isn’t interested in returning to the Amish community-especially to marry.
I actually had not read the previous books in the Coming Home Series before reading Home to Paradise. I have read the books that feature some of the other characters in the book though. I typically have enjoyed Barbara Cameron’s Amish books a lot.
In this story I began by feeling that Rose Anna was awfully pushy and controlling. Her desire to get John to notice her again seemed manipulative and her methods childish. I know people aren’t perfect but about midway through the book both of their personalities switched where John wanted to be his own English man before now he really wanted to be with Rose Anna. And Rose Anna? Well she all of a sudden turned sweet and non-manipulative. Huh? There was nothing really preceding this change of heart on both their ends so it just didn’t make for good reading.
The side stories of the women’s shelter and John’s boss were good. And as most Amish fiction is this is sweet and clean so I quickly got into the new characters and enjoyed the rest of the book.
I give it 4 stars. I have to take away one for the rough beginning. But it ends well. Amish fiction lovers will want to start with books 1 and 2.
