Some of the Updates

  • The old version had 73 pages and the new updated version has 98 pages.
  • Some of the chapters are rearranged.
  • Many more cleaning details for each day (I like that)

Having a Martha Home the Mary Way: 31 Days to a Clean House and a Satisfied Soul is more devotional than cleaning guide. Sure there are cleaning steps for each of the 31 days but along with those there are scriptures, prayers, and reminders of why we clean and for whom. Pointing out that the reasoning for a clean home is not to impress the neighbors but to show love to those who dwell within it’s doors. And those who you open your doors to.

I admit to often feeling guilty about the state of my home. On a busy weekend we can be running from sun up to sun down and only the dawn of Monday brings to light the messes left behind by our business.

A self professed non-cleaner Sarah Mae uses her introduction to remind us who we are cleaning for. Not to impress or to keep up with the Jonses but to show love to our families and guests.

I once had someone mention to me, rather haughtily, that they don’t clean just to impress their guests. They didn’t feel that cleaning was important and that their guests just had to get over the mess. That’s a sad way to look at it.

How do YOU feel if you go to someone’s home that is, not messy from kid happenings or from daily life, but messy from lack of care? That invites you into a home rife with neglect? You know the difference. You can feel it and smell it!

My husband sees this daily in his line of work and the stories he comes home to tell would curl your toes.

I thank God for showing me how to keep a clean home. As a foster parent it was often mentioned to us that this was one of the reasons we were chosen for a particular child. Just one mind you but when it came to a fragile baby just home from the hospital this was a key factor.

No one will ever keep a perfect a home. We are not perfect beings and so we shouldn’t try. But a clean home to bless your family and loved ones? Everyone can do that.

31 Days to Clean is a Devotional for Homemaker’s. Get into the Word before you get into the dirt.

I’m always open to a new cleaning schedule and following 31 Days to Clean may have me tweaking my schedule to fit me better.

How to Use this Book

I see Having a Martha Home the Mary Way: 31 Days to a Clean House and a Satisfied Soul as a Christian Homemaker’s Spring Cleaning guide.

How Did I Like 31 Days to Clean?

Here are Sarah Mae’s words on what she changed, ” I have added content, freshened up several of the readings, rearranged the order of some of the days, and completely redid ALL of the Martha challenges.”

31 Days to Clean the original was okay but for me the revised version is MUCH better. I appreciate all the extra added cleaning details and tips. Since this book is about cleaning your home with a heart for serving the Lord through your loving actions it made sense to add more about the cleaning part. The previous edition was sparse on that.

I also really like the inclusion of the Biblical aspect. I do wish there were a scripture for each day but there are scriptural references for about half of the days (don’t quote me).

The previous version contained a few printable lists. This version does not.

Now there are no pictures so if that is your thing you won’t find them here. But that does not detract from the ebook. It’s 31 days of cleaning your home so if you’re serious about that it will happen if you use this book and you may feel differently about the whole aspect of cleaning when you’re done.
