The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
~Titus 2: 3-5

Welcome back to Discovering the Titus 2 woman.

Are you one? Do you know one? This is part of my series for Write 31 Days.  After the incredible discovery this past weekend that I might be a Titus 2 woman I thought I should get my act together and look into this more.

Today we're going to start breaking down the scripture little by little.

that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness

note: I use the King James Version Bible.

The Psalms are filled with mentions of the beauty of holiness. But what is holiness?

In some Bible version holiness is written as reverently.

Webster's defines holiness as total devotion to God.

What does this look like on a Titus 2 woman?

I imagine that she is one that shows respect for the Lord. She is not perfect but does her best with her behavior and speech. (to me) this doesn't mean that she is meek and quiet and doesn't say anything but that she knows how to show Godly love to her fellow man (people).

We had a sermon holiness in church several months ago. Out of that hour long sermon the thing that stuck with me the most was his point that holiness without love is selfishness. He described how an attempt to be holy without having the grace to show love turns into  something selfish and lofty. Where your attempt is to lift up yourself.  God speaks a lot about loving others in the Bible.

I nodded my head at this a lot because I've known people who are good and attempt to do God's will but show a lot of disdain for others they feel are not good enough or perfect. They don't fit their ideal so that makes it okay and right to disdain them and even belittle them.

God speaks a lot about loving others in the Bible. And if the Titus 2 Woman is to have total devotion to God she would show that love instead of disdain.

Doesn't that say it in a nutshell? That your behavior shows total devotion to God.

I am not a Bible scholar so I have found some Bible Scholars for you…
