Happy New Year!

Yes it's already 2015! Have you mistakenly written the date with 2014 a time or two yet? If not it's bound to happen. Just be patient.

This week it's back to school and back to a normal dinner menu for us.  I made a Costco run yesterday for my beginning of the month grocery stock up. This turned out to actually be a Costco Fail because I spent more money than I had intended. I picked up many things not on my main Costco shopping list and missed an important item I meant to pick up. Costco is so tempting. Lesson learned people.

One good thing I did pick up was some fresh fish. Rockfish and Steelhead. I was trying to use my FoodSaver Vacuum Seal Machine to seal the fish for the freezer and the vacuum part just wouldn't work! That is so frustrating!

My Foodsaver is about 5 years old and to me it still has many good years ahead of it so no way I was going down with out a fight!

A quick search online led me to figure out that maybe the gasket was the issue. I pushed it in a little further and the thing was working like new again!

Then I read a bit further and decided that now was a good a time as any to clean up my little FoodSaver. I looked a bit closer and saw that maybe I hadn't cleaned up the machine too well in the past a time or two.

Do you know how to take care of your Foodsaver? I have the version V2490 and if you go to the FoodSaver website they have a whole section of FAQs where they give you tips on using your machine such as washing the gasket. I did that tonight along with a general wipe down and washing of the little plastic well thingy where the bag edges go to seal.

  1. Looks like a good week of meals :). Tonight we had my Pork Chops with Apple Cider sauce (recipe on my blog). Tomorrow is mine and hubby’s anniversary, so we’ll likely go out (that reminds me – I should call my mom to see if she can babysit…). Wednesday will probably be something along the lines of fried rice to use up the leftover pork chops from tonight. Beyond that, I have no idea!

    1. Thanks Wendy! Pork Chops sound yummy. We had the beef last night and I’ve pulled out some chicken for tonight’s meal. I don’t think I have ever made stir fry rice. Have to look into that.
