Elizabeth Prentiss a Homeschool book Review

My daughter loves reading about people in history. Particularly Christians and those who have made a difference during times in history. She was recently able to read Elizabeth Prentiss: More Love from Christian Focus and their Trail Blazers Series.

Christian Focus publications has been around since the 1970's. They publish books for adults and children that reflect God's Word and that proclaim the gospel message. The Trail Blazers series has over 50 titles in it including the following.,,
- Patricia St. John
- D.L. Moody
- John G. Patton
- and William Tyndale
The book Elizabeth Prentiss: More Love was written by Claire Williams who holds a degree in Theology.
Who Was Elizabeth Prentiss?
Elizabeth Prentiss was a Christian woman who was born in Portland, Maine and lived during the 19th Century. She married a pastor and went on to give brith to six children (although only four survived) even though she had chronic health issues.
Through her suffering from the death of her parents and other issues later in life she came to trust more in God. Her life is important to Christians because she wrote many religious stories, poems, and a hymn you may be familiar with, “More Love to Thee.“
More Love to thee ~ Hymn
More love to Thee, O Christ,
More love to Thee!
Hear Thou the prayer I make
On bended knee;
This is my earnest plea:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee,
More love to Thee!
Once earthly joy I craved,
Sought peace and rest;
Now Thee alone I seek,
Give what is best;
This all my prayer shall be:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee,
More love to Thee!
Then shall my latest breath
Whisper Thy praise;
This be the parting cry
My heart shall raise;
This still its prayer shall be:
More love, O Christ, to Thee,
More love to Thee,
More love to Thee!
About the Book More Love

Members of the Homeschool Review Crew were sent various books by Christian Focus and we received the title Elizabeth Prentiss: More Love to review.
This book is written as a reader for middle school aged children (for example nine through fourteen year olds). Or to be read to younger ages. My daughter is in the eighth grade so she falls under the Read to Myself category.
The book is a small soft cover paperback with one hundred and thirty five pages.
There is a sectios included in the back of the book help young readers think more about the story they have just read or heard. It's called Thinking Further.
The Thinking Further section delves deeper into some of the life happenings or choices of the main character of the book and how they may apply to the reader. There is also a Challenge for each Thinking Further Topic to encourage the reader in their own Christian walk or to pursue one.
More Love also includes a TimeLine in the back of the book of Elizabeth Prentiss' life.

Our Thoughts
My daughter was really excited to get this copy. She loves reading about missionaries and Christians from the past. The book was a quick read for her. And she really enjoyed it.
She loved that Elizabeth wanted to glorify God through her entire life and that she never doubted Him.
Something She Learned: More about Tuberculosis
Her Favorite Part: When Elizabeth Prentiss was a teacher at Richmond School. Because the girls benefited from her teaching. Many of the girls were going through tough times in life and Elizabeth was a positive influence on them.
If you're looking for inspiring stories of Christian heroes for your students check out the Trail Blazers series and Elizabeth Prentiss' story.
