Learn to Play Chess (finally) {HOmeschool Review}
My whole family can play chess. And they play together all the time. But I don’t know how and I’m a bit intimidated to ask them. So I was pretty excited when I got the chance to review Fun Family Chess by Brain Blox. It’s an easy way to learn the rules of chess.
About Chess
Chess is a game of strategy that seems to go on for years if, like me, you got all your chess knowledge from tv shows. In actuality you can play a chess game in just a few minutes and leave your opponent in a weeping heap on the floor. Not really but you can play it quickly.
The Chess game we know here in the West is played between two people and contains kings, queens, knights, bishops, rooks, and a pawn. There are rules as to who can move where and when.
The game dates back to 7th century India with the rules we know today being standardized in the 19th century. Chess is played all over the world and is even recognized as a sport. Now you really want to play right?
My extended family used to play chess together a lot but somewhere through the moves and years that orginal family game board was lost and we keep saying we’ll get another so I can learn. My daughter learned to play chess a several years ago and regularly challenges her father and her computer and her friends (the play on the computer…or used to).

To play the beginners version you use the color coded reference cards to learn the rules and play the game. It’s a no stress way to learn to play. The dice and reference cards are familiar tools from other games.

Having Fun with Fun Family Chess
The plan was for me to learn to play chess with Fun Family Chess but the game has been in use every day by my daughter (who already knows how to play) and some visiting friends. They love it!
And even though they know how to play the standard chess game they seem to prefer to play the beginner way because it’s some thing new and exciting.
The board game is a nice attractive kit where you can store all the pieces and die in the game board itself. So that makes it easy to put away.
The board pieces are wooden as is the game board.
