Our Weekly Wrap Up Friday

This entry is part 3 of 4 in the series Weekly Wrap Up

weekly-wrap-up-2-10Happenings in my home this week…

Here are some of the things I have learned this week. (Remember Learn is my word for the year)

In our HomeSchool this week…

In Science we've moved from the Solar System to the teeny tiny world of cells. At the beginning of each chapter Sweet Peanut fills in a worksheet about how much she knows on the coming topic. This past week she was whining about knowing nothing about the world of cells so I took her back to her sheet on the Solar System. Same thing. She knew nothing but by the end? She was spouting off facts with the best of them and understanding (most important)

In Reading we just finished a story called Mission over Mexico. It's a touching short story about God using a miracle to bring others to Christ. We've started taking turns reading to each other which, I think, is more enjoyable for the TSP (The Sweet Peanut).

In English class we're taking a run at writing a short story. Each day we work on one small step.

Our Math unit on measurements is winding down and a test is in order for today. Next week we move on to Division. I forsee lots of kitchen time with that one.

Speaking of kitchen time and learning we picked up a cute book in the library this week called How Cooking Works. This cute book by Dorling Kindersley inserts a bit of Science into 50 yummy recipes you can make with your kids. It's really cute and worth a look if you like to do a bit of teaching in the kitchen.

For general life learning we spent some time on searching in the library. TSP really likes this and enjoys searching for books she wants to read.

Helpful things I've learned to pass on…

You only have 24 hours in a day. Use them wisely.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We had snow this week so we didn't go anywhere until later and then it was just to the library and the grocery store. We spent an afternoon at my mother's too.

Things I’m working on…

I've got a new planner coming up. Sometime this month is the goal. It's coming along nicely.

I have 10 more pounds of chicken to work through.

Books I'm reading…

Disciplines of the Beautiful Woman

In the Kitchen…

Special moments…

We were watching our Science class on cells and the instructor showed the cells of an onion root, an onion skin, and the green part of the onion.  I turned to look at TSP and her mouth was hanging open in awe. It was so beautiful. I gave her a big smile and she smiled back. Telescope on the agenda. Science is becoming her favorite subject.
