Weekly Homemaking Happenings in my Corner January 24, 2014
Happenings in my home this week…
Being inspired by another homeschool blogger I thought it would be a nice thing to wrap up each week with some happenings I’ve noted. You know not every happening deserves it’s own post so it’s makes sense to give a sort of wrap up.
I’m new at this so expect the first few weeks to be me getting my bearings.
Here are some of the things I have learned this week. (Remember Learn is my word for the year)
In our HomeSchool this week…
- This week was Homeschool Essentials Blog Hop with the Schoolhouse Review Crew.
- In Science we’re still studying the weather and have now moved on to extreme weather and learning about tornados, blizzards, and hurricanes.
- We’re all about the passage of time in Math. Calendars and Clocks. Since the Sweet Peanut is a born scheduler this unit is going quickly. Here’s a fun online game on reading time. We’re still doing Math drills and they’re paying off well.
- In Reading we’ve been enjoying the poem,The New-England Boy’s Song about Thanksgiving Day By Lydia Maria Child. Poems are always a nice touch in Reading class.
- In English we’ve been going over the parts of a book,
- Table of Contents
- Copyright Page
- Title Page
- Index
- Glossary
Helpful things I’ve learned to pass on…
- Free Valentines Printable Pack at Gift of Curiosity
- Free DIY Cleaning Products Kindle Ebook free until today on Amazon
- Discovered this lovely blog yesterday.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
- We went to a lovely tea party this past Monday, Martin Luther King holiday. It was really nice and a mix of ages.
- We also made a badly needed trip to Costco. We don’t go as often as we should. Why is this considered a place? I don’t know. We actually had fun. It was feed the masses day and there was food on every corner. My husband made constant jokes about purchasing a membership just to eat. He can make any outing fun and sure enough he and the Sweet Peanut spent quite a while getting to know everything. I just strolled and picked up the items.
My favorite thing this week was…
- Getting back into the piano. My left hand needs a workout so I’ve been giving it one. The Sweet Peanut is taking her own piano lessons and that’s inspiring me. Do you play the piano? What left hand patterns do you use for faster, upbeat songs?
Things I’m working on…
- The above.
- Still keeping up with my T-Tapp workouts. I’m LEARNING a lot and have even had a nagging hip pain go away. One thing I’m LEARNING is that when you have a product really dig in. Get to know it and use it well.
Books I’m reading…
I finished most of my books from last week and just finished [simpleazon-link asin=”0764204319″ locale=”us”]Constant Heart, A[/simpleazon-link]. That book was an insight. It gets mixed reviews on Amazon but I really enjoyed it. The Tudor language and setting was not some people’s cup of tea. Also, what wasn’t a cup of tea for many but really interesting for me, was the in depth details of makeup customs and costumes of the Elizabethan era. I’ve been thinking of a post for Vintage Homemaking for this.
Still working on [simpleazon-link asin=”0061778745″ locale=”us”]The Secrets of Happy Families: Improve Your Mornings, Tell Your Family History, Fight Smarter, Go Out and Play, and Much More[/simpleazon-link]
In the Kitchen…
This week was more turkey. My husband picked up more turkey on Sunday. A big one cut up into pieces. He spent Sunday and Monday brining it. And now it fills our fridge with the other turkey he purchased previously. I told him we’re going to start gobbling.
So far we’ve had turkey twice this week and we’ll be eating it again tonight. I may develop a turkey allergy. I purchased some ground beef just in case.
Special moments…
This week’s tea party with family and friends.

This song has been in my head all week…
Do you mind if I quote a few of your articles as long as I provide credit and
sources back to your weblog? My website is in the very same niche as yours and my users would truly benefit from a lot of the information you provide here.
Please let me know if this ok with you. Appreciate it!
Yes you may quote articles but please provide credit and a link back.
I love doing a weekly wrap-up. I often feel like we don’t get anything accomplished until I start building my collages! We don’t go to BJ’s as often as we should, but I always go on Saturday because the Hubby and children have so much fun with the sample tasting 🙂
I just saw your post and you got A LOT done! It is nice to put it all down on paper/screen though. It makes you see how truly productive you’ve been.
