Blake’s All Natural Pot Pies for Those Busy Nights

What to feed the family when time and opportunity are tight?

I love cooking and hanging out in the kitchen but don't always have the time.

We recently returned from a nice winter vacation visiting family.

The days before and the days after were busy and full.  Even though I had some nice freezer meals prepared for busy times I wanted something even easier. But it had to meet a few criteria to make it on my dinner table.

It had to taste like food and it had to be soy-free. I have a soy allergy and boy does that knock out a lot of prepared foods for me. Good and bad it means I eat healthier but it also means I spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

So I love when MomsMeet has a new product for me to try that I might have passed by. In this instance it was Blake's Turkey and Beef Pot Pies.

Some Details About Blake’s Turkey and Beef Pot Pies

A family business that started in farming some 75 years ago Blake’s Turkey and Beef Pot Pies are all natural and made in small batches using natural and organic ingredients.

This family business makes their pies by hand using recipes passed down from Clara.

Another plus? They are SOY-FREE! Now that's just the Turkey and Beef Pot Pies which fall under their Natural line. Blake's makes several freezer meals and the other pies are NOT soy-free. The Turkey and Beef Pot Pies also contain no artificial colors or flavors and use hormone-free meat. Important especially for my growing daughter. Each 8 oz. Blake's pie costs about $3.99 in your grocery store.

The Turkey Pot pie's ingredients are :

Gravy [water, unbleached wheat flour, corn starch, canola oil, turkey broth (turkey stock, natural flavor, salt, turkey fat) sea salt, mushroom broth (mushroom juice, natural flavor, salt, corn starch), garlic powder, onion powder, poultry seasoning, (spice, paprika), ground ginger], Crust (unbleached wheat flour, palm oil, water, salt), Cooked White Meat Turkey (water, sea salt), Potatoes, Peas, Carrots.

The Beef Pot pie's ingredients are :

Gravy [water, unbleached wheat flour, corn starch, canola oil, beef stock (beef stock, natural flavor, salt, beef fat) tomato paste, mushroom broth (mushroom juice, natural flavor, salt, corn starch), garlic powder, onion powder, evaporated cane syrup, spice, ], Crust (unbleached wheat flour, palm oil, water, salt), Cooked Beef (beef, onions, seasonings, sea salt, pepper), Potatoes, Peas, Carrots.

Let me tell you we had a time finding these new Blake’s Turkey and Beef Pot Pies. We found that most stores had Blake's other frozen food items but the New Turkey and Beef Pot pies were really hard to find. We finally ended up locating them in a Walmart with some help from management.

I picked the evening before we took off for our trip to serve the pies. I didn't want too many dishes in the kitchen to clean up and we were looking forward to something hearty on our bones for the long trip.
Using the excuse that there were vegetables in the pie already we skipped any other side dishes and just served pies (note we picked up some of Blake's other pies so we could have a real smorgasbord).
These pot pies are each 8 ounces. Enough for one person but we did manage to share… maybe because I cooked up more than one each.

How Did We like Blake’s Turkey and Beef Pot Pies

So even though we tried several pies in the brand this review is focused on the Turkey and Beef Pot Pies only.

How did we like them? I really liked the Beef Pot Pie. It was my favorite. I had to hide my little pie from the family as they wanted to dip in too.

If I wanted to be picky I would say the crust wasn't perfect but it wasn't bad either. Yes I would buy these and keep them in the freezer for what my husband likes to call “hard times”.

You can find Blake's Natural Turkey Pot Pie and Beef Pot Pie at Meijer, Publix, Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, and plenty more stores. Visit their website to find more stores…
