If You Were Me and Lived in Russia a Book Review
Carole P. Roman has come out with another great cultural book for kids. This time If You Were Me and Lived In Russia .
I never realized how much my daughter would take to these introductory books to countries and cultures she has yet to visit. I was really blessed in my childhood and not only got to visit many places but also have a mufti-cultural network of friends. Hearing of all my travels our daughter is only naturally curious about places she’s never seen.
Russia has been on her agenda to visit some day and this cute book gives her an insight of what kids over there eat, play, learn, and celebrate.
The 28 soft cover bound book has big easy to read words in black on one page while the facing page has colorful drawings of the people, places, and things seen in and around Russia.
If You Were Me and Lived In Russia is currently priced at $7.79 for the printed softcover book on Amazon.
In the first page we learned the climate, the capital, and some demographics.
Following that we learned popular Russian names, terms of endearment, and what kinds of clothes are normally worn.
Next we learn about the city of Moscow and a little bit of the history .
My favorite page is “What We Eat.” Well that’s what I call it. My mother used to have some Russian friends and she still raves about the delicious foods. Hmmm. Have to look up a recipe for Piroshky some day.
Games and toys are on the next couple of pages followed by special celebrations and holidays and finally school or “shkola”
In the back of the book there is a pronunciation dictionary to help sound out some Russian words.
These books are geared for ages Pre-K through 8. I’ll have to tell you though my daughter is 9 and really enjoys them and learning about life in other countries.
