About the Book: Someone is after Dr. Sarah Gordon. They’ve stalked her and set a fire at her home. Trying to recover from the traumatic deaths of her husband and infant daughter is tough enough, but she has no idea what will come next. Her late husband’s best friend and a recovering alcoholic detective are trying to solve the mystery before it’s too late, but both appear to be vying for her affection as well. Sarah finds herself in constant fear as the process plays out.
My Review: This was a new kind of read for me. Well not exactly new but I haven’t read a medical mystery in a while. Dr. Mabry weaves an interesting tale with complex characters. You have no idea who is involved until the end.
Dr. Sarah Gordon is still reeling in grief from the passing of her husband and daughter. Attempting to make it day to day now someone is after her. I was truly amazed at how strong this character was even in the face of what had happened and was happening to her. I kept thinking to myself that had I been in her shoes I would have collapsed into a heap of despair by then.
Dr. Gordon’s late husband’s friend, Kyle, wants to be there for Sarah. He and Sarah’s late husband were friends and his own wife is gone so doesn’t it make sense they should be together? Even with all Sarah is going through she has to navigate these new waters coming from someone she sees as a friend.
Then there’s Bill Larson, divorced police detective. He finds himself drawn to Sarah but struggles with wanting to reconnect with his ex-wife and child.
Oh what a tangled web we weave. The culprit will surprise you.
