I live in an open concept home. If you watch enough home buyer and DIY shows you know that means the builder saved money by giving me less walls downstairs. My kitchen is open to my dining room to my living room etc.
I’m not knocking open concept. In fact I like it. Apartments are usually like this and that’s where I’ve lived much of my life. It makes it easy to see what is going on in the next room and that is important when you have small children. And when we have guests I can participate in the conversations going on in the dining room and kitchen all while cooking delectable meals.
But one offset nobody seems to talk about is how “open concept” allows the cooking odors of those delectable meals to waft ALL OVER your house.
You can be sure that whatever you had for dinner will be with you for days to come. Our master bedroom often smells like whatever we’ve had for dinner that night. Right now I’m smelling tonight’s dinner in the crockpot and I’m behind closed doors upstairs!
This could mean I have a cheap exhaust system or whatever but the bottom line is I don’t like going to bed smelling soup or chicken, or beef, or stir fry. Food period! I want my bedroom to smell like roses!
Usually I’ll close the upstairs bedrooms after everyone is up in the morning but I don’t always remember this. In fact I usually forget. So what to do once the odor is in there to stay?

Using Renuzit Sensitive Scents
Right away I started using the Renuzit Sensitive Deodorizing Spray in Pure White Pear and Lavender to banish cooking odors in my home. I had to test out not only the effectiveness but also if the scent was too strong.
I sprayed the air, my curtains, and the couch. The scent is a sweet floral like sent. Now I like scents and might be able to take them a bit stronger than a sensitive person. The sent wasn’t overly strong and I think the application to the curtains and couch may be more effective than to the air.
The scent wasn’t overpowering and spraying on the curtains was really nice. One set of curtains is in my husband’s office. For some reason these curtains like to absorb cooking odors from down the hall and around the corner. I sprayed them with Renuzit Sensitive Scents 5 days ago and even though I have to put my nose up to them they don’t smell like dinner anymore there is the faint hint of the Renuzit Spray.
Now the plug in oil diffuser in Pure Ocean Breeze has been a bit trickier to get a handle on. The sweet scent of ocean breeze is really nice. I can so imagine this scent in the summertime with all my windows open and the breeze blowing through. But right now it’s winter. The oil diffuser scents up a room fast! Figuring where to plug it in so that it perfumes the whole area and doesn’t get stuck in a corner is ideal. I finally found a wall in my living room that allows the scent to fill the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The scent is nice and light and doesn’t overpower.
The adjustable cone in Pure Water Blossom & Cucumber graces our tiny guest bathroom. The bathroom is right off the living room but the light cucumber scent stays right in the tiny bathroom. I only have the cone open just a tad bit.
I really like these new lighter scents from Renuzit. I think my favorite may be the Pure Water Blossom & Cucumber.
