Not False Accusers : Write 31 Days
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
~Titus 2: 3-5
Welcome back to Discovering the Titus 2 woman.
not false accusers
What does that mean? Like I've mentioned before I'm not a Bible Scholar. In the ESV version of the Bible, the word is slanderer instead of accuser.
In Webster's slander means to make a false accusation about someone that could damage their reputation.
Have you ever done that? Have you ever gossiped? I think many of us have and when we gossip that gossip can often be exaggerated or even blatantly untrue. Even if we're speaking from our own first hand experience how often have we spoken badly of someone who has hurt us to put them in an even worse light?
A friend of mine and I had recently made this discovery that we were in the bad habit of talking negatively about people. At first, we didn't even notice it because it was an epidemic with many of the people we knew. And then it was like the gossip was hitting us physically. Making us feel bad. We realized we were doing the wrong thing and we've been working at it for almost a year to put a stop to it and check our selves.
I try to raise my daughter to think well of people (while also being wise) but am I living what I was preaching to her? Probably not. But I'm making a concerted effort to do so now.
Again Titus 2 women aren't perfect just doing their best to do the will of God.
