Find just 20 minutes a day to clean your home and keep it in company readiness.

Doesn’t that just sound wonderful?

Do you have those days when you just look around your home and say “ugh!”. When it seems like there are just little messes absolutely everywhere?

Spend 20 Minutes a Day for a Clean Home - Homemaking Organized

I can relate. It happens in my home too.

After watching Simple Routines to Keep Order in Your Home in My Homemaking Mentor I was inspired to make keeping up with my home a daily occurrence. Not just when I notice things are a complete mess.

It only makes sense to spend a few minutes, each day, tidying your home so you don’t spend all weekend cleaning.  This simple morning cleaning routine is what I’ve been doing for the past few months because life just got too busy! I was having a hard time finding big blocks of time to clean up my home like I’m used to.

Motivated by the Simple Routines course, after waking for the day I’ve found it much easier to spend just 20 minutes going over the main spots in my home with my simple cleaning routine.

I still have scheduled moments throughout the week to do a deeper clean in the bathrooms and kitchen but this 20 minutes a day pretty much keeps my home tidy.

Now if you have a large home add a few more minutes.  Or if you live in a loft scratch off some minutes. In other words adjust this cleaning routine and the timing accordingly.

Also to be sure to keep you with regular Daily and Weekly Cleaning routines.

Some Notes: This is a cleaning routine for a home that has been decluttered and regularly cleaned. For this project I haven’t timed out each individual activity but I have timed myself several days in a row. My daughter also cleans her own bathroom and bedroom during this time so that keeps my bathroom cleaning down to 2.

If you need to start at the beginning, and you know who you are, go here to Start Cleaning and Organizing.

What time of day you can fit in this daily cleaning is up to you but keeping it all within the same 20 minutes instead of doing a bit here or there is so much better. Getting the house cleaning out of the way leaves you feeling as if you have more time (and you may have) to enjoy your family and do other things.

So let’s get started.

I have a little cleaning kit I put together for this.

Daily Cleaning Kit

  • All Purpose Cleaner
  • Window/Glass Cleaner
  • Microfiber Cloth
  • Sponge
  • [easyazon_link identifier=”B06XPFMD34″ locale=”US” tag=”mommybabytool-20″]Duster[/easyazon_link]
  • Caddy to carry it all in
  • Basket for things not belonging in said room

I like to start this cleaning routine in the master bedroom. Since making the bed is tops on my list that is where I start…

Master Bedroom

  • Make bed
  • Put away any clothing left out
  • Toss things not belonging in the basket
  • Open window for a few minutes of fresh air

Next I move to the master bathroom…

Master Bathrooms

  • Clean out sink with sponge and a quick spritz of all purpose (I love using  Murchison-Hume cleaning products in my cleaning kits)
  • Wipe mirror, faucets, and counter tops with microfiber and glass cleaner (yes I use that on the countertop too)
  • Spritz and quick scrub toilet bowl
  • Spritz seat etc and quick wipe with toilet tissue, flush.
  • Change towels (after washing hands) if need be.

If the floor is freaking me out I might run the vacuum but I’m pretty much done upstairs since my daughter takes care of her bedroom and her bathroom. I start a load of laundry on my way down…

Guest Bathroom

The guest bathroom is just like the master bath only smaller so it takes much less time…

  • Clean out sink with sponge and a quick spritz of all purpose (I use Murchison-Hume)
  • Wipe mirror, faucets, and counter tops with microfiber and glass cleaner
  • Spritz and quick scrub toilet bowl
  • Spritz seat etc and quick wipe with toilet tissue, flush.
  • Change towels (after washing hands) if need be

Living Room

The living room is usually tidied the night before so precious little goes on here except a light dusting and maybe straighten some pillows.

Dining Room

On my way to the kitchen, I pass through the dining room

  • Clear off dining table (if needed)
  • Wipe dining table

Kitchen

  • Empty Dishwasher
  • Clear counters
  • Fill dishwasher or wash dishes
  • Wipe down counters and stove

Voila!
