When my freezer gets low in meat I get nervous. As of the writing of this post I have 10 lbs of chicken, some ground turkey, and a few packs of precooked turkey but I'm out of fish and beef of all kinds (gasp!).

I like to buy the meat for our household in bulk. And like to have a nice variety of those meats. When my supply gets low I get nervous!

So what's a girl to do?

One of the things I do is make bulk spaghetti sauce and then freeze it (I know, I'm out of ground beef but you can actually use ground turkey and even pork for spaghetti sauce). The first night I make good old regular spaghetti but after that I'll use it in different dishes for a weeknight meal.

But what other things could I make with leftover spaghetti sauce? Well before I give you this week's list I though it would be nice to round up 5 different meals you can make with leftover spaghetti sauce.

Different Recipes to Make from Leftover Spaghetti Sauce

  1. Lasagna: If you keep certain cheeses on hand this is a yummy dish to whip up from leftovers.
  2. Chicken Parmesan: Now these are two ingredients I always try to keep on hand, chicken and parmesan. Makes a quick tasty dinner.
  3. Skillet Mac: The version I make is from America's Test kitchen but this recipe looks delicious too. And is uses leftover spaghetti sauce.
  4. Pizza:  I do this often and if you have meat in your sauce you don't need any other meat. Just use the sauce on your pizza crust, top with veggies and cheese and bake.
  5. Meatloaf: If you don't have too much sauce, say maybe a cup, make a meatloaf out of it.  Stir the sauce into your ground meet add some breadcrumbs or oatmeal and whatever else you desire and bake.

Here's my menu for the week…

Monday: Meatloaf from leftover spaghetti sauce.

Tuesday: Asian Style Turkey Meatballs over Rice Noodles

WednesdayCoconut Thai Curry Chicken

Thursday: Lentil soup and salmon sandwiches (from the freezer)

Friday: Quesadillas (turkey this time)

  1. Great ideas for leftover sauce, Kemi! My late MIL liked to make “dinner pie” out of leftover spaghetti sauce. Add some vegetables (she usually just used green beans), top with mashed potatoes (regular – fresh or leftover – or instant) and cheese (we like cheddar) and bake until bubbly. Similar to Shepherd’s pie, but much more basic and easy since it’s made with leftovers 🙂

    1. Thank you Wendy! That sounds really good. I usually do something similar with Thanksgiving leftovers but I’ve never tried with spaghetti sauce. Might have to do that 🙂
