18 Inch Doll Craft Bag

It’s that time of year again.

The time I look for cute stuff to make for my daughter’s birthday. This year (2015) I decided to keep the crafting simple and I enlisted the help of a family member to get something cute together for her 3 musketeer 18 inch dolls.

Now just in case you think 18 inch dolls are only for the very young my daughter’s great aunt is getting a kick out of outfitting them as much as my daughter is. They are two peas in a pod.

The doll loving aunt has got a few other things she’s putting together for her but one item I thought you all would like is this cute little knitting kit in a craft bag sized just right for 18 inch dolls.

We chose to design and use some of the new fabric available over at Zazzle.

Did you know Zazzle has Custom Fabric?

My aunt put together a simple but cute design (she was also envisioning a bag for herself) using common knitting jargon and we did it up in a few colors. Then we uploaded it to Zazzle (easy peasy) and used it to create the fabric she’s always envisioned.

I love that on Zazzle you can create designs you may have always wanted but couldn’t find elsewhere.

The Zazzle fabric comes in 7 weaves.

  1. Combed Cotton
  2. Polyester Poplin
  3. Pima Cotton
  4. Natural Linen
  5. Cotton Twill
  6. Polyester Weave
  7. Ivory Linen

The Zazzle fabric doesn’t come cheap so I probably wouldn’t use it to make every day clothing. Zazzle does have great sales often. Check the coupon codes page before ordering.

We chose the nice Cotton Twill which is priced at  $34.45 a yard (yes I used a coupon code and dropped that price drastically).

The Combed Cotton is cheaper but too lightweight and the Ivory Linen would have been lovely but much too expensive. We needed fabric heavy enough to do some home decor with. So keep that in mind when you scour your stash for the right weight.

The base color of the Cotton Twill is a light cream color offsetting the bright color of the words nicely (see below).

The fabric arrived in about a week and half. We were both pleasantly surprised with the weight and quality of the fabric and oohed and ahhed over it before getting down to business.

The Knitter’s Fabric we designed is on Zazzle here. We picked up a yard of it. Plenty enough to do several doll’s bags or one doll bag and one big one.

Using a simple pattern she designed years ago, my aunt crafted a tiny craft bag for the dolls complete with mini yarn skeins. The mini skeins are called Bon Bons and are from the Lion Brand Company. You can also purchase these on Craftsy.

    1. Thanks Wendy. I agree we balked when looking at the price but then factoring the custom option and they great sales they often have you can have the look you want for, while not a bargain price, an okay one. I personally would use this fabric for home decor.
