A book review on Corrie Ten Boom

My daughter really loves reading books from the Christian Heroes: Then & Now series by YWAM Publishing. This time the title was Christian Heroes- Corrie ten Boom Keeper of the Angel’s Den and accompanying Study Guide.

About YWAM PUblishing

YWAM Publishing is the publishing division of Youth With a Mission. Youth With a Mission are committed to publishing books that encourage young Christians to make a difference. I think by the way my daughter and her friends devour these books says it’s working.

These great books from YWAM Publishing are written by Janet and Geoff Benge, a husband and wife writing team. Former missionaries with backgrounds in teaching and history their books are favorites among homeschoolers. When my daughter swaps books with her friends they are often from either the Christian Heroes: Then & Now series or the Heroes of History series.

About THe Book – COrrie Ten Boom

My daughter has a heart for Christian heroes. She hopes to one day be a missionary herself so reading more about Corrie Ten Boom was something to get excited about. I say more because Corrie Ten Boom was not someone she had never heard of. I myself grew up with stories and movies of Corrie Ten Boom and her love for helping people so of course I had to pass that on to my daughter. Most people know the incredible story of Corrie Ten Boom but in case you don’t…

Corrie Ten Boom – Keeper of the Angel’s Den chronicles the life of Corrie Ten Boom who was born and lived in the Netherlands. When she was young her older brother had studied in Germany and knew the trouble that was soon to come to their land. He was also a minister and tried to warn his congregation who fired him but not before laughing at his warnings. As Corrie grew and worked with her father in the family watch repair shop things for the Jews became more dire in the Netherlands. Corrie and her family went on to hide and rescue several Jews before being captured and sent to the camps themselves. Of course that’s not the end of the story but I want you to read it for yourself.

Corrie Ten Boom – Keeper of the Angel’s Den is a small paperback book of 201 pages.

How did We Like the Book

Reading Corrie Ten Boom by YWAM Publishing.

Corrie Ten Boom – Keeper of the Angel’s Den is written in 3rd person format. The writing, I would say, is written for middle school age children. But I enjoyed reading it myself so there ya go. I know children in 5th and 6th grades who read these books and my daughter is ending her 8th grade year. She still loves them.

Now as far as how much did she love this rendition of Corrie Ten Boom’s story?

“It is a very inspiring book that encourages you to stand for the Gospel no matter what!” My favorite part of the book is when Corrie hides the Jews in the secret room. She had the courage do that even though she knew the penalty for hiding Jews.”

A Study Guide Too

Study Guide for Corrie Ten Boom

The YWAM Publishing companies also creates Study Guides to go with their books. We received access to the Study Guide for Corrie Ten Boom. These are great because they include an html file that opens up in your web browser so you can access the files easily.

Our Study Guide included a section for using it at home and also with a small group. There is also more information on the authors and more information on Corrie Ten Boom. In the Unit Study section there are Bible verses, ideas for setting up a display area on Corrie Ten Boom, ideas for hands on projects, and creative writing projects.

There are also six questions following a certain format for each chapter in the book. Because we have a full curriculum this is generally how I use Study Guides within our homeschool. The questions work on vocabulary, comprehension, facts, and opinions.

I’ve learned a long time ago not to try to do everything but with so many good ideas it’s hard to hold back.

The Study Guides reinforce these areas of curriculum….

  • History
  • Geography
  • Essay writing
  • Creative writing
  • Reading comprehension
  • Public speaking
  • Drama
  • Art
