Pesto and Parmesan Pinwheels with Creamy Genovese Pesto by Barilla

A well stocked pantry means you’re never without the ingredients for a great meal. Pesto is one of those things you want to keep on hand for quick dinners, quick appetizers,

What Is Pesto?

Pesto finds it’s roots in Italy. Pesto is usually made from the simple but delicious ingredients of fresh basil, pine nuts, olive oil, garlic, salt, and parmesan cheese.

These ingredients are prepared into a paste that adds depth and flavor to all kinds of dishes.
Why does Pesto make a good pantry staple?

The simple mix of ingredients that makes pesto adds flavor to a wide range of dishes. From adding to pasta, spreading on pizza crust, touching sandwiches, and even vegetables.

We’ve come to love pesto on our spaghetti and mixed with sautéed zucchini.

Can you think of some ways to add pep to your dishes with pesto?

Barilla Creamy Genovese Pesto

Barilla Pesto

Recently #Momsmeet sent me a package with a jar of Barilla Creamy Genovese Pesto to taste test with my family.

We love pesto so I had to hide this jar until I was ready to use it.

Pesto is best used shortly after opening. And that is no problem because we can devour a jar at one meal.

Barilla’s Creamy Genovese Pesto is a creamy pesto. It is made from Sunflower Oil, basil, parmigiano reggiano, cashews, olive oil, and a few other ingredients to make a creamy paste.

It is free from soy, wheat, fish, and peanuts for those with allergies.

Barilla Creamy Genovese Pasta is imported from Italy and prepared in such a way to preserve the natural color of the basil and the fresh taste of the parmigiana reggiano.

You can find Barilla Creamy Genovese Pesto at a store near you. Visit the shop locator link to

Different ways to use Pesto

My favorite way to use pesto is to mix it in with pasta and bring simple spaghetti to a new level.

I also like to keep a jar of pesto in the pantry for quick appetizers. It’s not always convenient to run to the store for every event.

Barilla’s Creamy Pesto is very smooth in texture making it ideal for mixing into your favorite pasta. You don’t even need to add anything else!

Listed below is a recipe I recently made and took to a small gathering. They went over very well so I thought I would share them with you.

These Pesto and Parmesan Pin Wheels are super easy to make and you only need a few ingredients on hand. It’s a good idea to keep a package of puff pastry in the freezer for moments such as this as well.

Here’s the recipe.

Pesto and Parmesan Pin Wheels

Ingredients

  • 1 jar Creamy Genovese Pesto
  • 1 package puff pastry
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Thaw puff pastry according to directions. When you're ready to assemble preheat oven to 375 degrees. Roll out puff pastry. Spread Creamy Genovese Pesto over the rolled out dough. Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top. Roll the dough up from the short side and wrap in plastic. Place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Line a pan with parchment paper. Unroll your pastry from the plastic wrap. Slice into 1/4 inch discs and place on the parchment paper. Bake in the oven 25 minutes until lightly browned. Cool on a rack and serve.
